Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you for agreeing to write a story for me. I’m sure it will be great. Since you probably don’t know me, I guess I should tell you a little bit about my likes/dislikes.

Likes: I usually prefer gen, especially focusing on platonic and familial relationships. I’m interested in found families, biological families, younger siblings, sidekicks, clones with identity issues, friends who become lovers and friends who don’t. I like crossovers and AUs which reveal interesting aspects of the characters. I enjoy outsider POVs, unreliable narrators, and women being well rounded human beings. I enjoy a good character study and have serious respect for ones with actual plot since that’s something I tend to struggle with. The thing I am really looking for in my Yuletide present is a nice kick in the feels.

Dislikes: I am not into romantic plots and tropes, or graphic sex. I’m not entirely opposed to romance, but I prefer it not to be the focus of the story. I have a huge embarrassment/humiliation squick and issues with infidelity, so please avoid those.

I’m not interested in anything seasonal or holiday-related. No smut please, either. Thanks again for your sure-to-be-awesome fic.

Oxford Time Travel Universe - Connie Willis: Polly Churchill, Colin Templer, Worldbuilding

This is my go-to series when I need to restore my faith in humanity. I am looking for a story which makes me feel the way the books do: a little sad, but ultimate hopeful and a little uplifted. Remind me that love transcends time and death and make me cry while you do it. Blackout/All Clear are my favorite books of the series, but Doomsday Book is the one I read when I need a good cry. Crossovers with this series are always welcome, but I think this year I’d like something about integrating back and grief inherent in time travel.

Star Trek: Lower Decks: Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, Carol Freeman

I recently got into this show and it’s hilarious. Mariner is my favorite. I love her PLATONIC relationship with Boimler and am fascinated by her complicated relationship with her mom. I’m looking for something as zany, yet heart-felt as the show. Feel free to include other members of the lower decks gang as well.

Star Trek: Prodigy: Gwyndala, Dal R’el

Gwyn and Dal are my favorite characters on the show and I’d love something that explores their relationship. Maybe something from when they first met as slave and enslaver, two lonely kids desperate for connection. Or maybe a missing scene from the series or a post-season two look at how Gwyn’s savior complex collides with Dal’s trust/control issues during her time as captain. Heck, you could try for all three!

Fox’s Tongue and Kirin’s Bone: Aaron, Aaron’s Death, Rose O’Shea, Lady Adelaide Sung

This series kind of ate my brain lately. I would love something exploring Aaron’s complicated relationship with the Lady and how it sort of mirrors his relationship with the wolf who raised/owned him. Something involving Death and the associated world building would also be amazing. Rose is my second favorite character in the series and anything about her and her relationships with Aaron, her family, or whoever would be lovely too.

My Adventures With Superman: Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen

This show is so delightful and charming. I love the relationships between the core three. The show primarily focuses on the budding romance between Lois and Clark, but I’d love something looking at Jimmy and Clark’s friendship, or Jimmy and Lois, maybe with a side order of how him knowing the secret she’s investigating impacts that.

Dracua - Bram Stocker (Novel 1897)
: Mina Harker, Jonathan Harker, Quincey Morris, Jon “Jack” Seward

Like half of tumblr, I’ve been reading Dracula Daily and I love our vampire hunter team. I would have nominated them all if I could, so feel free to include Arthur or Van Helsing or even Lucy. I ship the Harkers hard and could see Lucy and her boys in a polycule, even if though I don’t want something specifically about romance. I would love some sort of AU where the gang are PIs or possibly a Leverage AU with Van Helsing as Nate and Dracula as the mark. As long as the relationships feel the same, take this AU wherever you want.

Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022):
Evelyn Wang, Joy Wang, Waymond Wang

This movie is what my inattentive ADHD feels like and the optimistic nihilism at its core gave me all the feels. I would love something where either Evelyn or Joy gets diagnosed with ADHD and how that information impacts their relationship, with a side order of multiverse weirdness. Give me all the family feels and make me cry.

The Boys (TV 2019)
: Annie January

I am fascinated by Annie's childhood and what it says about The Boy's universe's relationship with superpowers and super-powered people. Her backstory is a toxic mix of pageant culture, parental abuse, corporate exploitation, and cult indoctrination. At the same time, her powers and the entitlement and expectations that come with them are central to her identity. Her struggle deal with all of that could do with a bit more exploration.

Likes: I usually prefer gen, especially focusing on platonic and familial relationships. Dislikes: I am not into romantic plots and tropes, or graphic sex. I’m not entirely opposed to romance, but I prefer it not to be the focus of the story. I’m not a fan of alternate setting aus and I don’t really get a/b/o. I have a huge embarrassment/humiliation squick and issues with infidelity, so please avoid those.

Oxford Time Travel Universe - Connie Willis: Michael Davis, Merope Ward, Polly Churchill, Colin Templer

This is my go-to series when I need to restore my faith in humanity. I am looking for a story which makes me feel the way the books do: a little sad, but ultimate hopeful and a little uplifted. Remind me that love transcends time and death and make me cry while you do it. Blackout/All Clear are my favorite books of the series. If you could find a way to cross them over with the MCU, Bletchley Girls or Indiana Jones, you would officially be my favorite author.

The Golem and the Jinni Series - Helen Wecker: Ahmed, Chava

The world building in this series is brilliant and, as a professional historian, I love the way the characters and their stories fit into the larger story of New York and the American immigrant experience. I’d love to see where their relationship goes over time and how they deal with the changing 20th century. They always seemed like big ADHD/Autism solidarity and that might be a cool angle to take too.

The Murderbot Diaries - Martha Wells: Murderbot, ART, Dr. Mensah, Worldbuilding

I got this series for my birthday and spent the next several months obsessively reading it. Give me a story which feels like the next novella in the series and I will love it.

Superman & Lois (TV 2021): Lois Lane, Jonathan Kent, Jordan Kent, Natalie Irons

I love, love, love the family dynamics on this show. Pick up where the season left off. Jonathan is my favorite twin and I am fascinated by Natalie. How does she handle a woman who looks like her dead mother and the boys who are her brothers but aren’t? What happens when they all take a moment to process their trauma? Give me all the family feels and make me cry.

Oxford Time Travel Universe - Connie Willis: Eileen O'Reilly, Polly Churchill, Colin Templer

This is my go-to series when I need to restore my faith in humanity. I am looking for a story which makes me feel the way the books do: a little sad, but ultimate hopeful and a little uplifted. Remind me that love transcends time and death and make me cry. Blackout/All Clear are my favorite books of the series. If you could find a way to cross them over with the MCU, Bletchley Girls or Indiana Jones, you would officially be my favorite author.

MIsfits (TV 2009): Nathan Young, Kelly Bailey, Alisha Daniels, Curtis Donovan

I loved season one, enjoyed season two, and am forever grateful that the series ended with the milk man episode. I really enjoyed the way the show blended some fairly dark stuff with absurdist humor and snappy dialog. Nathan is my favorite character, but I enjoy them all. I could only list four for the request, but I’d love something with all the ASBO Five, especially something focusing on the underused relationships in the show.

Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts: Kipo Oak, Wolf

This is a truly heartwarming show with gorgeous world building, great music, and an even better message. The relationship between Kipo and Wolf gives me life. I'd love something focusing on their relationship. Shippy or platonic, it is up to you. Feel free to include any of the other core characters too.

Hanna (TV 2019): Clara Mahan, Sandy Philips, Hanna Heller

I've enjoyed a good genetically engineered child soldiers story since Dark Angel. I'm really interested in all the trainees, but Clara is my favorite. A look at their early training? Clara adjusting to life in the woods or the Meadows? I am here for it. Feel free to include the other trainees as well. I kind of low key ship Clara with Hanna and Sandy with Jules, but no smut, please, if you go that route.

I wrote two stories for Yuletide: my assignment and one Yuletide madness treat. I was working on a Black Lightning story for [personal profile] beatrice_otter but it never quite jelled, possibly because I ended up marathoning Killing Eve instead of writing it. Sorry friend, but I defy you to watch that show and not get sucked in by the chaotic bisexual energy and murder.

Anyway, my stories!

One Last Leap
(Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse)
Telling his parents he's Spider-Man is a leap of faith Miles can't bring himself to take.

This was my assignment for [personal profile] musesfool and I was super nervous about writing it because I really love her stuff and wanted to give her something good. I re-watched the movie three times and procrastinated like whoa before I got it how I wanted it. Thanks, mom, for beta-ing and helping me keep with the outing one's self to the family theme. She now knows what a total nerd I am in case she missed it before.

The (Non)Haunting of Nathan Young
(Misfits (TV 2009)
And to think he’d scoffed when Simon had tried to warn him. Everyone you love will die. What a laugh, right? Christ, he’s been such an idiot.

I whipped out this treat for [archiveofourown.org profile] brampersandon over the course of a single afternoon while the show played in the background. Did you know they changed all the sound cues for the Hulu version? It was both distracting and disappointing. "Lonely Souls" is crucial for the end of the first episode and this is a hill I will die on.

Yuletide 2019 is open, as is Yuletide Madness. They've both been open for several days actually, but I'm lazy and have been too busy marathoning Killing Eve and Lost in Space to post about it. I wrote my main gift in one fandom and a madness treat in another. I had a plan for a third story, but it never jelled. If you can ID one of my stories before the reveal, I'll write one for you. To the people who left prompts on my Gen Bingo card, rest assured I'm working on them in the sense I'm playing with them in my head still.

Anyway, here's my gift and some recs.

Loving every minute 'cause you make me feel so alive
(Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse)
Five times the a-team helped each other out, and one time they helped someone else.

This one was my gift. It's got an interesting blend of movie and comics canon and is queer AF.

talk of the town
(Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse)
"So," Jefferson starts.

"Dad, I swear, I didn't mean to cut Art Club every day this week, it's just—"

"That you're the new Spiderman?" Jefferson says, and oh, damn, that was not the way he wanted to lead into this.

One of the funniest, most heartwarming reveal fics I've read.

the becoming garb of a gentleman
(Temeraire - Naomi Novik)
Temeraire commissions a set of clothing for Laurence.

Temeraire commissions a set of clothing for Laurence and it's the funniest thing. Great Temeraire voice and Laurence's reaction is priceless.

Novo-Arkhangelsk
(Killing Eve (TV 2018))
Alaska is lovely this time of year.

Surreal post-canon tale of love and murder.

Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse
: Miles Morales, Peter B. Parker, Gwen Stacy

The relationship between these three was lovely. Miles cleared Peter and Gwen’s skin, watered their crops, and cured their depression. I’d enjoy something where they return the favor. Cross dimensional mentoring. Peter helps Miles work through his Aaron-related grief. Miles and Gwen grow closer. Peter and Gwen finally discussing the fact she killed her Peter. Getting the band back together to stop a dimension-hopping baddy. You get the idea.

MIsfits (TV 2009):

Queer Eye RPF:
Bobby Berk, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Tan France

Queer Eye is just a genuinely heartwarming show about a group of gay Hufflepuffs trying to make the world better, one person at a time. I adore them all, but could only list four for the request. I’m looking for a crossover episode where the Fab Five do their thing for a superhero’s civilian identity. My top three picks are Peter B. Parker (Into the Spiderverse), Clark Kent (Superman), or Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Miraculous Ladybug). I’d also accept Stephanie Brown (Batgirl comics), Kate Kane (Batwoman TV), elderly Bruce Wayne (Batman Beyond), Jennifer Pierce (Black Lightning TV), Wally West (Justice League cartoon), Connor Kent, Artemis Crock, or any Roy Harper clone (Young Justice cartoon).

Yuletide has been revealed. I wrote three stories this year in two different fandoms.

You Fight Like You Practice for nitpickyabouttrains
The Dragon Prince: Callum, Soren, Rayla
Callum's never been good with swords, but the right teacher can make all the difference. Two lessons, two teachers, and one real fight.

The Talk for Elemental
The Dragon Prince: Rayla, Callum, Ezran
Rayla and Callum finally talk about what happened the night of the assassination.

Rapunzel on the Road for queensbookwench
Black Lightning (TV): Jennifer Pierce, Khalil
Jennifer is miles past done being kept like a princess in a tower. Tag to episode 2.09.

redrikki: Orange cat, year of the cat (Default)
Merry whatever to whom ever is celebrating!

I got my Yuletide gift and it is everything I hoped for and more.

Spider-Man: Junior Prom
Queer Eye\ MCU Spider-Man
The Fab Five help get Peter ready for his Junior Prom and it's exactly as hilarious as you'd expect.

I'm off to see Into The Spiderverse, but I'll have some thoughts on that and Yuletide recs later.

Blackout/All Clear are my favorite books of the series. If you could find a way to cross them over with the MCU, Bletchley Girls or Indiana Jones, you would officially be my favorite author.

Flavia de Luce Series - Alan Bradley:  Flavia de Luce, Arthur Dogger Harriet de Luce, Inspector Hewitt

I love me some unreliable narrators and Flavia’s brilliant, yet ultimately unreliable take on her world is a thing of beauty. I’m up for a mystery or a character study, or just about anything told through her unique point of view. Possible story ideas include an AU where Harriet is the parent who came home from the war; the first time Flavia met Dogger; or maybe a genuine team-up with Inspector Hewitt. Please include Flavia in any story, but everybody else can be used at your discretion.

The Dragon Prince (Cartoon): Callum, Rayla, Ezran

Watching the show, I was intrigued/horrified by the moment when Callum’s voice was stollen and I would love a story where he doesn’t immediately get his voice back. How does being mute effect Callum and his relationship with the rest of team egg? Since magic requires a spoken command, can he do it anymore? What’s the political fallout when his aunt finds out? I’d just love to see the wider implications of this AU play out.

Queer Eye RPF: Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Tan France

Queer Eye is just a genuinely heartwarming show about a group of gay Hufflepuffs trying to make the world better, one person at a time. I would love a crossover episode where they do that, either for anyone on this list, or for any particularly disastrous character I’ve written about at least twice. Also, the Fab Five remaking Clark Kent, Peter Parker, or Dick Grayson would bring me indescribable joy.

Oxford Time Travel Universe - Connie Willis: Merope Ward, Polly Churchill, Colin Templer; Michael Davies

This is my go-to series when I need to restore my faith in humanity. I am looking for a story which makes me feel the way the books do: a little sad, but ultimate hopeful and uplifted. Blackout/All Clear are my favorite books of the series. If you could find a way to cross them over with the MCU, Bletchley Girls or Indiana Jones, you would officially be my favorite author.

Powerless (TV 2017): Emily Loche, Jackie, Ron, Van Wayne

This show is a brilliant deconstruction of the superhero genre. I'm fascinated by the world building implications. I'd like a story either focusing on the day-to-day reality of a world where you can randomly be attacked by some Jack O'Lantern-themed villain or a crossover where the team from the office encounters the Batfamily in or out of costume.

Timeless (TV 2016): Lucy Preston, Wyatt Logan, Rufus Carlin, Jiya

History hijinix for the win! Fair warning, I am a professional historian, but don't let that stop you from writing the team fumbling through the American history era of your choice. One of the few fandoms where I'm okay with outright shipping (but no graphic sex). I ship Lucy/Wyatt, Rufus/Jiya, and team threesome.

LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures: Rowan Freemaker, Kordi Freemaker, Zander Freemaker, Naare

This show is both a brilliant spoof of Star Wars and a touching coming-of-age story. I love LEGO's take on canon characters, but the Freemaker family is amazing. I'd like either a story about Rowan's early training with Naare or something focusing on the family on a job for Freemaker Salvage and Repair. He's not on the list, but I love Roger so if you could include him, I would love it. Ditto with Vader and Palpatine. I've currently only seen season 1, but don't let that stop you from introducing stuff from season 2.
