Wednesday Reading
Dec. 26th, 2018 09:43 amHey, all. I hope you had a good holiday or at least a nice week.
Just Finished:
Heir of Fire (a.k.a. Throne of Glass book 3) - As expected, my friend C---- got me the last two books in the Throne of Glass series for my winter gift exchange/ birthday present. Good thing I already started the re-read. This is a door-stop of a book complete with two different training montages, and a bunch of palace intrigue. Unlike the first two books, it very much feels like a connector piece meant to get everything set up for the rest of the series. It introduces a few new, important characters: an asshole love interest, a long-lost cousin, and a witch. Unlike the first two books, the novel splits its attention between three different story lines, and I sometimes felt that the more interesting ones got glossed over in favor of reminding us that the depressed girl washing dishes and fighting with her teacher was still the main character. Manon is my favorite. Yeah, she's a literal man-eating murderess, but her girl posse rocks and her relationship with her pet monster is adorable.
Champions (issues 1-10) - I reread my back-issues in the hopes of being inspired for a Yuletide story. Inspiration was not forthcoming, but it was still worth my time. This comic is hashtag woke and the most Gen Z thing I've ever read. The team takes on human trafficking, bigotry, sexism, and corporate greed, all while obsessively checking what people are saying about them on social media. It's got a hopeful, positive message and fun team dynamics. Really, what more could a girl ask for?
Currently Reading:
Queen of Shadows (a.k.a Throne of Glass book 4) - Just started it this morning and am, like 10 pages in. Our hero has just returned to the capital to get stuff done.
Up Next:
Empire of Storms (a.k.a. Throne of Glass book 5)
Honorable Mention:
Spider-Man: Junior Prom: I was too busy going to see Into the Spiderverse to read a lot of this year's Yuletide, but this was my gift and I freaking loved it. The Fab Five remakes MCU Peter Parker for his Junior Prom and that shit is hilarious. Go. Read. Enjoy.
