Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you for agreeing to write a story for me. I’m sure it will be great. Since you probably don’t know me, I guess I should tell you a little bit about my likes/dislikes.

Likes: I usually prefer gen, especially focusing on platonic and familial relationships. I’m interested in found families, biological families, younger siblings, sidekicks, clones with identity issues, friends who become lovers and friends who don’t. I like crossovers and AUs which reveal interesting aspects of the characters. I enjoy outsider POVs, unreliable narrators, and women being well rounded human beings. I enjoy a good character study and have serious respect for ones with actual plot since that’s something I tend to struggle with. The thing I am really looking for in my Yuletide present is a nice kick in the feels.

Dislikes: I am not into romantic plots and tropes, or graphic sex. I’m not entirely opposed to romance, but I prefer it not to be the focus of the story. I have a huge embarrassment/humiliation squick and issues with infidelity, so please avoid those.

Oxford Time Travel Universe - Connie Willis: Polly Churchill, Colin Templer, Worldbuilding

This is my go-to series when I need to restore my faith in humanity. I am looking for a story which makes me feel the way the books do: a little sad, but ultimate hopeful and a little uplifted. Remind me that love transcends time and death and make me cry while you do it. Blackout/All Clear are my favorite books of the series, but Doomsday Book is the one I read when I need a good cry. Crossovers with this series are always welcome, but I think this year I’d like something about integrating back and grief inherent in time travel.

Star Trek: Lower Decks: Beckett Mariner, Brad Boimler, Carol Freeman

I recently got into this show and it’s hilarious. Mariner is my favorite. I love her PLATONIC relationship with Boimler and am fascinated by her complicated relationship with her mom. I’m looking for something as zany, yet heart-felt as the show. Feel free to include other members of the lower decks gang as well.

Star Trek: Prodigy: Gwyndala, Dal R’el

Gwyn and Dal are my favorite characters on the show and I’d love something that explores their relationship. Maybe something from when they first met as slave and enslaver, two lonely kids desperate for connection. Or maybe a missing scene from the series or a post-season two look at how Gwyn’s savior complex collides with Dal’s trust/control issues during her time as captain. Heck, you could try for all three!

For the purposes of this exchange, that can include anything from newspaper articles and academic writings to stories narrated by the preverbal man on the street. Feel free to play around in terms of genre and formatting. When it comes to canon characters, I'm always a big fan of character studies and have serious respect for ones with actual plot since that’s something I tend to struggle with.

Do not want: Anything focused on romantic relationships, smut, character bashing, graphic depictions of sex or bodily harm.

A Song of Ice and Fire

Worldbuilding Aspects: Old Gods, gods and religion, region-specific customs and cultural traditions, economics and trade, myths legends and songs, skinchanging and warging.

I’m interested in the interactions between the different sections of Westeros with their unique ethnic and cultural heritages. How do the different regions see each other? Are there accents? Are there regional/ethnic slurs? Do religious leaders of different faiths preach against each other? How do different regions react to proselytizing? Are there different magics common to different areas and ethnic groups? My favorite regions are the Iron Islands and the North and something focused on the ways they interact might be interesting.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

Worldbuilding Aspects: Establishment and rise of the Horde, Horde recruitment, growing up in the Horde

Canon has all these hints about how Adora and the gang were raised and trained, but I want more. Who is in charge of the day to day care of child recruits? Are there different career tracks within the Horde (child care, teachers/trainers, food production, weapons manufacturing, soldiers, etc.)? The Horde is both an army and a society. How does it all work?

Infinity Train
Characters: Original Character(s), Any/None Worldbuilding Aspects: Origins of the train, how passengers are chosen, re-integration after the train

I just finished this series and have so many questions. What is the train and where did it come from? Why are certain people abducted and not others? What does all this look like from the outside when a loved-one goes missing for an extended period of time and comes back radically different? What happens to kids who spent years on the train and now have to integrate back into society? Do they need therapy from the trauma of the train?Do people believe when they say what happened to them?

DCU (Comics)
Characters: Bruce Wayne, Damian Wayne, Original Character(s), Any/None
World building Aspects: Civilian response to superheroes, superhero intellectual property and copyright claims, Outsider POV on child superheroes

I love the Batfamily, Batgirls included. I would love to see an outsider POV on their super heroic activities. How annoying/traumatizing is it to live in a city where weirdly themed terrorist attacks happen regularly? What do the press and the internets have to say about the latest Robin? Who does the public suspect? Give me all the secret identity shenanigans. Read The Law of Superheroes and run with the legal implications Batman using tech from Wayne Enterprises’ R&D.

The Golem and the Jinni Series - Helen Wecker: Ahmed, Chava

The world building in this series is brilliant and, as a professional historian, I love the way the characters and their stories fit into the larger story of New York and the American immigrant experience. I’d love to see where their relationship goes over time and how they deal with the changing 20th century. They always seemed like big ADHD/Autism solidarity and that might be a cool angle to take too.

The Murderbot Diaries - Martha Wells: Murderbot, ART, Dr. Mensah, Worldbuilding

I got this series for my birthday and spent the next several months obsessively reading it. Give me a story which feels like the next novella in the series and I will love it.

Superman & Lois (TV 2021): Lois Lane, Jonathan Kent, Jordan Kent, Natalie Irons

I love, love, love the family dynamics on this show. Pick up where the season left off. Jonathan is my favorite twin and I am fascinated by Natalie. How does she handle a woman who looks like her dead mother and the boys who are her brothers but aren’t? What happens when they all take a moment to process their trauma? Give me all the family feels and make me cry.

MIsfits (TV 2009): Nathan Young, Kelly Bailey, Alisha Daniels, Curtis Donovan

I loved season one, enjoyed season two, and am forever grateful that the series ended with the milk man episode. I really enjoyed the way the show blended some fairly dark stuff with absurdist humor and snappy dialog. Nathan is my favorite character, but I enjoy them all. I could only list four for the request, but I’d love something with all the ASBO Five, especially something focusing on the underused relationships in the show.

Kipo and the Age of the Wonderbeasts: Kipo Oak, Wolf

This is a truly heartwarming show with gorgeous world building, great music, and an even better message. The relationship between Kipo and Wolf gives me life. I'd love something focusing on their relationship. Shippy or platonic, it is up to you. Feel free to include any of the other core characters too.

Hanna (TV 2019): Clara Mahan, Sandy Philips, Hanna Heller

I've enjoyed a good genetically engineered child soldiers story since Dark Angel. I'm really interested in all the trainees, but Clara is my favorite. A look at their early training? Clara adjusting to life in the woods or the Meadows? I am here for it. Feel free to include the other trainees as well. I kind of low key ship Clara with Hanna and Sandy with Jules, but no smut, please, if you go that route.

Spider-man: Into the Spiderverse: Miles Morales, Peter B. Parker, Gwen Stacy

The relationship between these three was lovely. Miles cleared Peter and Gwen’s skin, watered their crops, and cured their depression. I’d enjoy something where they return the favor. Cross dimensional mentoring. Peter helps Miles work through his Aaron-related grief. Miles and Gwen grow closer. Peter and Gwen finally discussing the fact she killed her Peter. Getting the band back together to stop a dimension-hopping baddy. You get the idea.

Queer Eye is just a genuinely heartwarming show about a group of gay Hufflepuffs trying to make the world better, one person at a time. I adore them all, but could only list four for the request. I’m looking for a crossover episode where the Fab Five do their thing for a superhero’s civilian identity. My top three picks are Peter B. Parker (Into the Spiderverse), Clark Kent (Superman), or Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Miraculous Ladybug). I’d also accept Stephanie Brown (Batgirl comics), Kate Kane (Batwoman TV), elderly Bruce Wayne (Batman Beyond), Jennifer Pierce (Black Lightning TV), Wally West (Justice League cartoon), Connor Kent, Artemis Crock, or any Roy Harper clone (Young Justice cartoon).

Flavia de Luce Series - Alan Bradley:  Flavia de Luce, Arthur Dogger Harriet de Luce, Inspector Hewitt

 

I love me some unreliable narrators and Flavia’s brilliant, yet ultimately unreliable take on her world is a thing of beauty. I’m up for a mystery or a character study, or just about anything told through her unique point of view. Possible story ideas include an AU where Harriet is the parent who came home from the war; the first time Flavia met Dogger; or maybe a genuine team-up with Inspector Hewitt. Please include Flavia in any story, but everybody else can be used at your discretion. 

 

The Dragon Prince (Cartoon): Callum, Rayla, Ezran

 

Watching the show, I was intrigued/horrified by the moment when Callum’s voice was stollen and I would love a story where he doesn’t immediately get his voice back. How does being mute effect Callum and his relationship with the rest of team egg? Since magic requires a spoken command, can he do it anymore? What’s the political fallout when his aunt finds out? I’d just love to see the wider implications of this AU play out. 

 

Queer Eye RPF: Antoni Porowski, Jonathan Van Ness, Karamo Brown, Tan France

 

Queer Eye is just a genuinely heartwarming show about a group of gay Hufflepuffs trying to make the world better, one person at a time. I would love a crossover episode where they do that, either for anyone on this list, or for any particularly disastrous character I’ve written about at least twice. Also, the Fab Five remaking Clark Kent, Peter Parker, or Dick Grayson would bring me indescribable joy.
