Mama's got her grove back! After months of struggling to string two words together, I managed to write five fics, that's right, five, in three different fandoms. This COVID thing really thew me for a loop. I was floundering a little bit anyway since the death of my father and most recent hyperfixation, but the isolation was really getting to me. Then I attended a webinar on documenting the current COVID crisis and launched the COVID Memory Project at the historical society where I work. I've been driving around the county taking pictures of signs. I've interviewed over a dozen people about their experiences. Not only has it gotten me out of the house, it's allowed me to feel less helpless. I'm taking control of the narrative and it has helped more than I ever imagined.

Anyway, on to the writing round-up portion of our post.

Agent Carter

All the World's a StageDottie had cleared out all her belongings except for the dead body under her bed and Angie was starting to wonder if she actually knew anyone as well as she thought she did. She knew she wasn’t the best actress in New York, but she was starting to think she hadn’t even been the best one in the building. (Angie Martinelli, Peggy Carter)

Batwoman (TV)

Trapped in the Closet
Kate was never afraid to come out to her father, but she is now. Episode tag to the season 1 finale. (Kate Kane, Mary Hamilton, Luke Fox)

Black Lightning (TV)

Maybe Baby
"Ever think about what kind of power's you and Grace's kids would have?" Jen asked, raising possibilities Anissa had never considered before. (Anissa Pierce/Grace Choi, Jennifer Pierce)

Sleeping Beauty
Grace had been in coma for over a month now, but Anissa still couldn't help thinking each visit that this would be the one where she woke up. Maybe today it would be. (Anissa Pierce/Grace Choi)

Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts

The Hero Was You
Benson likes Troy and Troy likes Benson. Great! Now all Benson has to do is figure out what to do about it. (Benson/Troy)

Wow, all that content was super gay. Kind of fitting for Pride Month, I guess.

I signed up for the Eat, Drink &
Make Merry exchange, so that will be my next project. I also signed up for [community profile] femslashficlets folktales tropes challenge, so expect more wlw content down the road. Feel free to suggest a pairing and I may even feel motivated to write it now that my crops have been watered and my depression has cleared up.

Once upon a time, I had the creative juices for a half-dozen stories a month. Not so any more. In February, I managed to squeeze out two in two different fandoms. Here, a few days late and several dollars short, are my offerings for the past month.

Star Wars

A Self-Fulfilling Prophecy - Depa stumbled free of the maze, back into the atrium for the Lothal Temple. There was just one problem. The man kneeling between the desiccated bodies of the ancient Jedi was not her master. (Depa Billaba & Kanan Jarrus) Written for the Past Imperfect Future Unknown time travel exchange.

Agent Carter

Odds on Favorite - And to think Peggy might never have known about the office betting pool if Daniel hadn’t asked her to dinner. A workplace comedy set between seasons 1 and 2. (Peggy Cater/Daniel Sousa, Jack Thompson). Written for Chocolate Box exchange.

For March, I've signed up for the Worldbuilding exchange and actually have an idea about what I'm going to write! It's practically a miracle! I also have prompts left for me by a couple people that I'm still kicking around. Rest assured, I'll get to them eventually. Are there any other neat exchanges coming up? I find that I feel more motivated these days when it's a structured thing with an actual deadline.

My mom and I are having a grand time during her visit. Every time she comes, I end up spending so much money. Last time she was here, she helped me find a dining room set. Yesterday, I bought a sofa and loveseat for my living room. I'll take pictures when it comes, assuming I can figure out how to get them off my tablet and on to the internets.

I introduced her to the Umbrella Academy and we finished it last night. She enjoyed it and went on a wild ride of being charmed by Leonard to horrified. She originally liked Vanya too as she has often felt as though she didn't belong, but was pretty ambivalent about her by the end. I've seen the series three times now and each time I have a new appreciation for a different character each time. I really clicked with Allison this time. Unlike the others, she's already in the midst of her upswing when do the series starts. She's already acknowledged her claws and made the decision to get and be better. On the one hand, it makes her arc feel a bit truncated. On the other, it means she's already a more mature and empathetic person than the rest from the word go.

Before Mom came, I had a surprisingly productive writing month. I've gotten my groove back, or nearly anyway. I wrote four stories in four fandoms, in of which was an exchange gift which won't be revealed for months.

Truth Will Out (Black Lightning),

Three times Anissa thought about telling Grace and one time she did.

Iconic (Umbrella Academy)

When Vanya learns Klaus is gay from a teen magazine, she's upset for more than a few reasons.

The One You'll Know By (Batman comics)

After losing his memory, Bruce asked After not to tell him about Batman, but he's beginning to suspect that he left some other thing out. Like, say, his kids.

April was a singularly unproductive month. I only managed one story. One. I mean, yeah, I was busy with conferences and Passover, but I just was not feeling the creativity. Anyhow, here's wonderwall:

Peanut Butter and Marshmallows
Umbrella Academy
Stuck in the apocalypse, Five reads about Vanya leaving him sandwiches.

Way back in March, there were like four different fic exchanges due in early May I thought about signing up for. Luckily, I only signed up for one: the hurt/comfort exchange. Unluckily, I still have no freaking clue what I'm writing for it. Like, at all. And instead of re-watching the shows for it, I've gone and picked up Fortitude. Someone, please help jump start my creativity. It's due on May 10th and I don't even have a basic premise!

February has come to a close and it was actually pretty productive for me. I wrote six stories in three fandoms, plus an significant portions of an on-line exhibit on the local NAACP for work. I also was interviewed by the local tv news twice and once a local radio station. I'm actually getting pretty good at it, but I really need to step up my interview outfit game because I looked like a total schlub.

Anyhow, on to the stories!

Star Wars

Second Wind - Ahsoka Tano takes the wrong exit out of the world between worlds and ends up with a second chance at saving her master. (Ahsoka Tano, Shmi Skywalker) I wrote this for the Past Imperfect Future Unknown time travel exchange for [archiveofourown.org profile] LittleRaven

For Amidala
- Her handmaidens had all poured so much of themselves into Amidala, it was like they were part of her now. Padmé didn't know if she had the strength to let one go. (Padmé Amidala, Sabé, Naboo Royal Handmaidens) I wrote this for [archiveofourown.org profile] AceQueenKing's prompt in the Bring Her Bleeding Heart To Me femslash ficathon.

After the Funeral - Han offers Luke some unexpected support after the funeral of the guy who tortured him. (Luke Skywalker, Han Solo). I wrote this for [archiveofourown.org profile] Sholio 's prompt in the Friends Will Be Friends ficathon.

Agent Carter

A Modest Proposal - The mess with Vernon Masters has left Daniel's office short staffed, but he has some replacements in mind. (Daniel Sousa/Peggy Carter, Edwin Jarvis, Howard Stark) I wrote this for [archiveofourown.org profile] lillianmmalter in the Agent Carter Valentine's exchange.

Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree - Three people who thought Peggy Carter and Edwin Jarvis were having an affair and the one person who knew better. (Peggy Carter, Angie Martinelli, Jack Thompson, Daniel Sousa, Edwin Jarvis/Ana Jarvis) I wrote his for [archiveofourown.org profile] AgentMint  in the Agent Carter Valentine's exchange.

Black Lightning (TV)

Comic Book Life - Comic book Thunder's boyfriend knew what his woman was up to, so why couldn't Anissa tell her girlfriend? (Anissa Pierce/Grace Choi).

For my next trick, I plan to finish out my ladies bingo card and sign up for the hurt-comfort exchange. Like I mentioned the other day, I have an idea for a Bei Fong ladies tribute vid. Unfortunately, when I went to rip the DVDs this morning, neither of the two programs I have for it would work. Do any of you know anything about MakeMVK or Handbreak? I could really use some advice.

I wrote over 2,000 words spread across 8 stories this month in She-Ra & the Princesses of Power, Star Wars, and one fandom which shall remain nameless until the exchange is revealed in February.

She-Ra & the Princesses of Power

Parting Strands
Adora and Catra have always looked out for each other, but Adora's beginning to suspect that's over. Her thoughts on "Promise."

Star Wars

Everything this month was based on John Mulaney quotes. Despite their comedic origins, the stories all got rather angsty. Oh well.

"Whats that? Over there! Don't do that!" with Obi-Wan (and Anakin) on tumblr or AO3
"I think I'm becoming more like my mom" with Anakin on tumblr or AO3
"My life is a freaking nightmare" with Anakin (and Padme) on tumblr or AO3
"It's easier to do nothing rather than something" with Palpatine on tumblr or tumblr or AO3
"When people are mad at it, it's my fault" with Anakin (and Obi-Wan) on tumblr or AO3

Mystery story was written for the Past Imperfect Future Unknown exchange which will go live on Saturday and be revealed on the Saturday after that. Spoiler alert, it involves time travel and is awesome.

Now that I'm done tooting my own horn, I'll take a moment to toot someone else's with some recs. This month I've mostly been reading Into the Spiderverse stuff. Here are my favorites:

It's a School Night, Why Are You Out Saving the World? by TechnicolorVocab01

After the events of the film, Jefferson is determined to be more supportive of both Miles and the new Spiderman. It takes him a while to figure out they are one and the same.

Lay it on the Line by badgerpride89

Nine months after the collider, Miles has been meeting up with Gwen and Peter for lunch every Saturday. Naturally, this attracts his parents' attention. This is part of the series Afterward. All the stories in it are good, but this is my favorite.

Spider-Man is Dead (Long Live Spider-Man) by tajargirl

Series of four short stories focusing on the death of Peter Parker in the lives of every Spider. Including Peter Parker.
